I broke our moodle...

Hi, I have a slight problem on my hands... I was looking at ingitrating our (very small developers) with a LAMS server. After installing the LAMS software I was advised by Moodle that is need to be upgraded. I decided to backup our course/user data and go for a completely fresh install of the newest version. I down loaded it, and now when I access the url that should depoy the install.php (as I understand it) is just tells me:

The page cannot be found

The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable.
Standard 404 I guess. If I drop in the old moodle config.php file into the new version it tells me there is a problem with the database, so I figured that basic functions are sort of working.
Perhaps the problem is with the MYSQL database? any suggestions?

Hi Jay,

What is the address you are using to launch the install script?

Have you rebooted your server since this started?

Sometimes upgrades and installs can be too much stress on a MySQl server if the load max connections are too low and the SQL server will crash. Try rebooting.

Thanks for the reply Martin. I have rebooted a few times. I think there is a problem with MySQL. I was thinking about a complete re-install of both moodle and MySQL but I am unsure of the impact of doing this as I've not got into the configuration stages of the moodle install (I inherited a working site).

Do you have to add the database (dB) into the moodle structure, or can you associate the dB when you configure Moodle install.php, or possibly it self associates when you set both bits of software up?

When you load Moodle for the first time, clean database etc, you will see the install screen. This screen can be accessed on http://localhost when using the server, else were you should use a web address.

You will be asked for your database name, type (mysql), a table prefix (default will work), mysql password and a user (By default, root with a blank password) in step three.

Install

Most config defaults later in the setup will work.

Please feel free to email me if you have any problems,

Good Luck,
