I have helping a professor who used the quiz activity to create a quiz in Moodle, but then created a manual grade item to put all the grades into. She didn't know that there was an automatic grade item created when she used the feature. So now, she wants to keep the quiz itself, but only wants the grades that she put into the manual grade item to stay since she changed some things since. Is there a way that I can exclude the automatically created grade item from the final course total without actually deleting the quiz itself?

Did you try "hiding" the quiz?
What about duplicating the quiz? That should keep the combination of questions but remove the user information. Including the grades. You would have an empty quiz duplicate and could delete the original. Or am I misunderstanding what you intend to do?
