mdl_message table is no longer used?

Hello,

in our database, the mdl_message table (without s) exceeds 4 GB.

I understand this table is not used anymore since version 3.5 (link). The last entry in our table dates from 2018, which would confirm this.

Do you know if we can delete the entries of this table, and if so, how without impacting other tables?

I believe that it is safe to remove those - although obviously it might impact the history of messages for users when you do.

We no longer put new content into this table, but content is migrated for existing users as and when they log in.

MDL-67601 will handle the removal of this table and final migration of its data. I expect that this should be done for Moodle 3.9.
