Okay - eliminating the administrative preamble stuff cleared up the problem. Apparantly, the cache was not clearing fast enough, so I did not see a change in my output until I changed the original equation.

Now I have a small issue with GIFT importation of tex sequences, but I will check out the threads and appropriate categories for this new issue.
