The interactive video content type in H5P does allow for free text questions now.

If all you're doing is showing videos and asking the students to describe what they see, you could do the following:
  1. Set up an H5P Course presentation
  2. (Use the first slide to give instructions)
  3. Add an Interactive Video to a slide
  4. Pause the video where you want the students to answer the question and add a free text question on a "Poster" (require answer before students can proceed)
  5. Repeat above step for any additional questions you want to add to the same video
  6. Add more slides for any additional videos you want to add and add the free text questions to them

Some points:
  • Think about whether you want navigation via self-made buttons on an Active surface mode or use the standard navigation below the presentation
  • Marking free text questions in Moodle is still a bit of a hassle: go to the Moodle Gradebook, find the correct activity and click on the Magnifyer next to each student's name to check/mark the answers
