Linking H5P activites

I have been using the standard Moodle essay question with each question showing a video clip and the student is asked to answer a question to describe what they see. The essay questions are built into a quiz so the sequence is fixed and navigation is to the next page. The sequence is important as each question reveals the story line.

The H5P essay  will allow automatic marking but it is an activity.  Ensuring  sequential flow and and a natural progression  while preventing students wandering off to new areas from an activity are not clear.

The H5P activities are individually cool so how do you package them so you don't end up with a long list of activities?

James - H5P does have a Quiz (Question Set) content type that allows question types like multiple choice, fill in the blanks, drag the words, mark the words and regular drag and drop. Unfortunately the Essay content type is not one of the types. Plus the data analysis of the results is the quality of Moodle Quiz statistics.

Hi James,
just to complete Dave's answer, there are some H5P activities that allow to insert several activities (column, interactive book) but, as Dave pointed out, unfortunately the essay content type is not included neither.

The interactive video content type in H5P does allow for free text questions now.

If all you're doing is showing videos and asking the students to describe what they see, you could do the following:
  1. Set up an H5P Course presentation
  2. (Use the first slide to give instructions)
  3. Add an Interactive Video to a slide
  4. Pause the video where you want the students to answer the question and add a free text question on a "Poster" (require answer before students can proceed)
  5. Repeat above step for any additional questions you want to add to the same video
  6. Add more slides for any additional videos you want to add and add the free text questions to them

Some points:
  • Think about whether you want navigation via self-made buttons on an Active surface mode or use the standard navigation below the presentation
  • Marking free text questions in Moodle is still a bit of a hassle: go to the Moodle Gradebook, find the correct activity and click on the Magnifyer next to each student's name to check/mark the answers
