Annotating multiple PDF files

Annotating multiple PDF files

Hello! We are investigating PDF annotation. We have it working, but I have a question about possible further functionality.

It appears that when a student submits multiple PDF files for an assignment, the annotation tool combines them into one PDF for annotation. Is there a way that EACH PDF file can be annotated SEPARATELY, resulting in an Annotated PDF for each submitted PDF, instead of combining them into one file?

Also, it appears that if you annotate a PDF file, then another file is submitted (or re-submitted) by the student, the original annotated PDF file is lost, replaced by a new file as you grade it. Is there a way to keep a history of the annotated PDF files for archiving and auditing purposes?

Perhaps there is a Moodle plugin that accomplishes this?

Server/Moodle details:

Moodle 3.7+ (Build 20190530); CentOS 6.10; Apache 2.2.15; PHP 7.1.30; MySQL 5.6.44.

Thanks for any help!

Tim

Hello Tim,
There are two main plugins that are great for students annotating PDFs. This one is a Moodle Plugin and works within Moodle: https://moodle.org/plugins/mod_pdfannotator . The other plugin (LTI App) is by Hypothesis and is a pilot program and allows a teacher to use PDF and Webpages for students to annotate. We are part of the Hypothesis LTI pilot program: https://web.hypothes.is/education/lms/

I can tell you that the Hypothesis integration is really impressive. We are testing the waters with teachers right now and trying to get our curriculum leaders on board.
