As mentioned on https://backpack.openbadges.org/, Mozilla Backpack is now Badgr Backpack. Thus, we have changed the active external backpack on moodle.org to Badgr, as described in the documentation Badges settings.

If you previously connected to the Open Badges backpack, you will need to first create an account on https://badgr.io/, then go to your backpack settings page (via your preferences) and disconnect then connect to the Badgr backpack. You will receive an email from Mozilla with a zipped file of badges which you can upload to your Badgr backpack.

For further information, please see the Mozilla backpack transition to Badgr FAQs.

OMG, I just received 95 confirm your account emails from Badgr. I finally blocked emails from them.
Edit, before the block took effect, I received 75 more emails.

Ben,

Nate from Badgr here. This is the first time we've heard of a verification email being sent this number of times. This should only occur as the result of a form submission once per click. If it's not too much trouble, could you contact us at support@badgr.com so we can look into this and fix any behavior that might be malfunctioning?

So far, no success.
Registered for EU service, as advised - closest to my location.
Am logged into: https://eu.badgr.io , but not into https://badgr.io - credentials rejected, so cannot connect my account here on Moodle.org with the Badgr backpack. Unable to add badges to the eu service anyway - invalid badges? Tried upload from the zipped file Mozilla sent, tried uploading individually, tried via URL, which I believe would something like https://moodle.org/badges/badge.php?hash=fd3ab73f1655badd11bfdc32a7b1c2ba3ff5fb74 . Nothing works so far sad .

Their home logo on the website points to https://badgr.com/ , which is still something different, so navigation is not good at all.
Should I close the EU account? Anybody got any further with the EU service and uploading the Moodle.org badges there?

Hi Przemek,

Sorry to hear about your Badgr problems. I've just learned from badges developer Sara Arjona that because https://badgr.io is set as the active external backback on moodle.org, it's only possible to connect to badgr.io, and not to eu.badgr.io (or either of the other location sites).

Thus, the only solution for now is to create an account on https://badgr.io. If you are asked to choose a location, select US, then you will have an account on badgr.io.

As for uploading badges to badgr.io I've managed to do so, though I sometimes obtained an invalid badge error, so tried a different method or at a different time, and then managed.

I think that’s going to be a problem for a number of sites Helen. If Badgr are suggesting that people choose their nearest server and that changes the url, it potentially means that users will be unable to store badges from some Moodle sites, depending on the setup. I’m going to file an issue in the Tracker - although I’m not sure if this is a Moodle problem of a Badgr problem sad

You're right Jon, it is going to be a problem for sites. I checked and couldn't find a tracker issue for it (I guess you didn't have chance yet to create one) so I created MDL-66585.

Thank you Helen and Jon for taking interest and action. I will look forward to any further developments; I will not be changing my account settings with Badgr yet.

Indeed. I created my Badgr account on their Canadian site and started uploading badges. Then I tried to upload my Moodle badges and could not. It complained about invalid URLs. If I now need to upload my badges to a US Badgr account, I won't be able to keep all my badges together.

Some food for thought...

I can see how learners around the world will want to use their closest Badgr server and end up in a similar situation.

I was going to suggest that the Badgr server be a user configurable setting however what happens if Badgr starts adding additional sites around the world? Will Moodle administrators need to start creating accounts on each of them?

Sounds to me like a Badgr issue. They need amalgamate or at least sync their servers around the world so that it no longer matters which one you are connected to.

Update: Since moodle.org was upgraded to 3.10, you can now connect to a backpack on eu.badgr.io, ca.badgr.io or au.badgr.io (MDL-65959).

You need to go to your backpack settings (via Preferences / Badges), disconnect from badgr.io if necessary, then select the correct backpack and connect to it by entering your email address and password for your Badgr account.

Yes, Badgr is the active external backpack on learn.moodle.org.

Just noting that the site has moved from learn.moodle.net to learn.moodle.org, so if you previously had an Mozilla Open Badges backpack and received a zip file of badges, any Learn Moodle badges will give an error if you attempt to upload them to Badgr. Please see the discussion learn.moodle.net Badges for details of how to add your Learn Moodle badges to your Badgr backpack.
