Hi,

I want to know your experience with plagiarism plugins in moodle

we need to use them, but I always face problems in setting the plugin and we end not using any of them.

for example, one of them it didn't work and the solution suggested by the company to create new courses ( it worked with new courses that were created after installing the plugin) but that solution was not visible for us. I received error msg with another one when installing and the solution was to use the most updated version which I did but it didn't work.

did you face any problems with your plagiarism plugin and what your recpmandations

thanks

I've used both Urkund and Turnitin. These days there are no problems with either. A few years ago when the plugins where launched they both had loads of problems but they seem to have been sorted out.

There are a number of plagiarism plugins that work really well - a good indicator is to look at the number of registered sites using a plugin - here's a link to all the plagiarism plugins ordered by the number of sites using them:
https://moodle.org/plugins/?q=type:plagiarism%20sort-by:sites

I'd focus on the top 5 in that list (all support Moodle 3.7) - the other plugins are not supported at the same level and are not as widely used.

Turnitin seems to be the most "popular" in most english language speaking countries, but some of the others in that list are solid alternatives.

Turnitin is also one of the more complex integrations - their user/course/activity model doesn't always fit the way Moodle courses work very well so the code needs to deal with various different scenarios. Personally I like the simplicity of the Urkund API (but I'm a developer - not a teacher!) smile
