installation advice

Hi,

I have set up moodle using windows XP and EasyPHP, which includes apache, mysql, ect. I have been trialing this set-up for about a month and all seems well .

Now I want to open moodle to the school and install it on a windows 2003 server and point a sub domain to it. We will host the server at school. We have around 2,500 students and 200 teachers. Will EasyPHP handle this amount of usage? Do I need to upgrade it?

Any advice will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Mick

Easyphp is not a program, it just bundles "Full" versions of Apache, MySQL, PHP and several additionals. There are other bundles like XAMPP that supports more platforms and offers additional plug-ins for TomCat and Cocoon.
I saw in the Moodle documentation that they advice to use another server. http://docs.moodle.org/en/Performance
(I cannot comment on that, I have to try it myself first..)

I am wondering if there is a recommended installation. In particular, if there is currently recommended version of PHP and MySQL. For example I know that there are some issues with MySQL 5 and PHP 5. Also, I recall that there were adodb issues with some versions of PHP. While the goal is to make Moodle work on as many installations as possible, I wonder if anyone is willing to make a recommendation on the 'best' versions to use???

Some good thoughts...I have adodb on my webserver, (not installed, but I just recently loaded the directory). Do you think it would be wise to remove it?

I read that the adodb.dll improves performance and I figured I would give it a shot. I have not had any problems thus far.
