Dear Colleagues, dear Moodler

If you are interested in online assessment you may already know that there is another open source project which fills an important gap in Moodle for conducting online exams safely: The Safe Exam Browser (SEB, www.safeexambrowser.org). There is already a basic integration with which you can secure any Moodle quiz you want, but there are a lot of additional possibilities (e.g. additionally allowed third-party apps) which need further configuration. We at ETH Zurich and the BFH want to close that gap together with Moodle HQ and the SEB main developer. We've initiated a project called Improved Safe Exam Browser Integration. The goal is to enable Moodle to manage all important configuration settings for SEB, enabling you to create a secure online assessment as a teacher.

Project: Improved Safe Exam Browser integration

Wireframes: https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-64934

Development and maintenance: Moodle HQ

Cost: 200'000 Australian Dollar (140’000 CHF)

Time frame: Moodle 3.8 (have a look at the roadmap: https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Roadmap#Moodle_3.8_and_beyond:_planning_in_progress)

Due to various reasons neither Moodle HQ nor the SEB consortium can finance the project (although they are supporting it explicitly). Therefore, we are seeking institutions to cofund the project. We are very happy to announce we already have around 10 European universities that support the project. About 70% of the cost is covered already.

Are you interested in the project? Please contact me (korner@let.ethz.ch) or Luca Bösch (luca.boesch@bfh.ch) directly and we can send you some additional information.

Best regards
