Students have been reporting that they cannot type anything into textareas such as essay questions. I am also unable to do so. I have the 1.9 version installed and cannot seem to figure out what the issue is to correct it. i have searched through the forums, but cannot seem to find this exact issue for this version. I can enter text in html and full screen mode.  Thoughts?

Looks like the upgrade "1.9v to Newest version" https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=385812 has become urgent.

Anyway could you find out the version numbers of the components, specially MySQL, PHP and Moodle itself (1.9.X?) and post them here? Is it possible that the hoster has upgraded something? How do you host Moodle BTW?

I just contacted the technical support for my web hosting and they said it's the moodle, not anything on their end such as the MySQL or php version. If I choose to upgrade to 2.0, will the user data also transfer, or just the files and the rest of the database?

If you follow the standard upgrade path; all being well, you will keep all user and course data. Be sure to back up first and test your upgrade first.

The hosting support did not give you the version numbers of the software components, instead:
> they said it's the moodle, not anything on their end

They couldn't tell you what hat IT is?

> If I choose to upgrade to 2.0, will the user data also transfer,..

The general idea of an https://docs.moodle.org/en/Upgrade in Moodle means all. But the people who offer the upgrade must say whether it is specifically so. (Edit: According to https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=385812&parent=1555778 it is not the case.)

BTW, support for https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Releases#Moodle_2.0 ended in 2011/12! We are at 3.5/3.6 moving to 3.6/3.7 within days.
