As per my email too. Moodle users have different roles depending on where they are, so on one course they could be a teacher and another a student and an authenticated user on the frontpage. If site wide, then one solution that I see is using custom user profile fields that you populate and then the theme uses that programatically. If only on a course, then it can be done without a custom user profile field.
What version of Moodle and Adaptable are you using please?
