Newbie in need

Hello from Spain,

I've been working on my Moodle site for a quite time now. My site is hosted at gnomio.com, they are great and professional guys there.

I don't manage my site locally. They set everything up for you. This is very convenient, but I'm a bit worried about losing all my hard work if they stop providing their amazing service. I contacted them regarding these concerns and they have sent me a zip file containing my sql database and my moodledata folder.

However, I haven't got the slightest idea on how to make things work locally. I sense it is going to be beyond my knowledge, but who knows? perhaps someone out there could help this poor hopeless newbie out.

Thanks so much from Spain

We all had to learn this stuff sometime. If I can do it, so can you 眨眼

They have given you the data from your site. It's actually all you need.  What you are trying to do is described here, Moodle_migration. Read this. If stuff doesn't make sense, please ask.

Of course, maybe you don't need to. As long as you have this data, some other Moodle provider can easily recreate your site.

Dear Howard,

I'm afraid this far beyond my skills. I will contact my moodle provider and see what can be done. At least, I can always ask them to update my database and moodledata folder once a year just in case, which should be more than enough for peace of mind.

Thanks Howard, really

At a minimum, get your course https://docs.moodle.org/en/Course_backup downloaded to your computer.
