I noticed that this plugin is not supported for the moodle app, is there any chance with a future release that students can access?

Not at the moment, no. They would need to use the web link provided in the Moodle app.
One problem here is that the plugin API for the Moodle App is a moving target, it has changed completely quite recently and is not well documented, hence I'm not sure whether I should invest much effort into it.
