Self Enrollment Implementation

Greetings all,

I do not come here without first spending two days to resolve an issue. I have and am totally at a loss. If anyone would be so kind to help out, I would be eternally grateful.

The issue is that I cannot get the self enrollment functioning. I have self enrollment enabled on the enrollments plugin and on the course. Self enrollment shows  up but does not function.

Any help or advice is greatly appreciated.

Please don't ever, ever post passwords on a public forum. It is *imperative* that you change your password immediately and check everything is ok.

No need to apologise to me. It's just an open invitation to everybody+dog to log into your site with admin rights. All you need is some comedian to delete all your courses!!

"It doesn't work" doesn't help us much. What did you do? What did you expect? What didn't work? If you see errors what are they? What version of Moodle is this?

Can I just check you know the difference between authentication (meaning students can sign up and create accounts on your site) and enrolment (meaning they can enter a course)? Sorry if you do and if your problem IS with enrolment but sometimes people say the one when they mean the other. Please look at the section Adding Users for info  on Authentication and Enrolment in this Admin quick guide

Background if interested. I have a commercial website that sells food safety courses. As of lately, I have run them without an LMS. Just had them view videos on my site.

With my new DSHS license, I have to use and LMS. For this course, "Texas Food Manager Training," I put it on moodle in a subdirectory on my main site. I take payments on my main site, which it is set up to do, then shoot them to my moodle site. I know there is a way to register them with an HTTP call, I have seen it before, but cannot find it now. 

So I take the payment and shoot them to my moodle site an let them enroll themselves in the course. 

I can get "Log in as guest" working, but I need a record of their performance which is why I am trying to enroll them.

your assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks anyway.

I appreciate you help. I have tried for weeks, and cannot do it, I guess I am too blonde. I have read everything that I could find on this. Girls are at a disadvantage. Don't point me to a help page when I have said that i have tried for days. I have already read it. I even have a CS degree, 40 years ago, before PCs.

Oh well....

In order to self enrol in your course you need to allow users to create accounts on your site. (known as authentication.)

  1. As site admin, access Site administration>Plugins>Authentication>Manage authentication and click to "open the eye" of the one called "Email-based self registration".
  2. Scroll down on the very same page to where it says "Common settings" and then change the dropdown to "Enable"
  3. Scroll down again to the bottom and click "Save changes".

Please do not repeat myths about "blondes" and "Girls are at a disadvantage". These are both unhelpful and biologically inaccurate. As a 59 year old natural blonde with no technical background at all ( I am a languages teacher by profession) I am able to set up Moodle sites, and in our organisation we have a number of very competent women of different nationalities and hair colours who can do much more than I can.

Try the above and see if you get the "Create new account" message in your log in page.

I am a feminist activist, and always have that on my mind. But yes, that does not belong here. When I said that, I am trying to reduce the myths by women, not promote them. Sorry.

Of interest is that we are the same age.

This is my home page now, thanks to your help. Im amazed that I had so many problems here. It was because several things needed to be done before it would work. Moodle is fairly new to me and I haven't developed an adeptness with it yet. Compare the page above and the one below. at my company I declared a Thank Mary Day. Most people can go home early.
