Please bear with me--- I have been completely impressed by the respectful and pleasant nature of responses; I don't want to tax that!
Currently I use a tool in some of my courses that is basically a set of perl scripts that create a "links sharing" setup. Users can post links to a webpage, that indexes the links under a preset choice of categories. (see http://anthro.qvcc.commnet.edu/links/usrlinksoc.html)
Has anyone achieved this with Moodle? (if I knew php... I'd be on it right away!)
Also, is there any easy way to create a box or tool that allows the visitor to see an index of available, public files? (for example, if I had a bunch of handouts, I could dump them into the folder, and they would show up in a linked directory)? Again, sorry if I am asking the obvious here... and I appreciate any insight offered.
