Anyway students can enroll in groups themselves?

Anyway students can enroll in groups themselves?

I am a recently arrived web administrator, and I have been assigned to redesign one of my college's websites to use Moodle.

The main problem I have is that I need to distribute students in groups in some courses. This distribution, though, can't be made by the teacher, that is, it is the students who have to group themselves in pairs (or groups of 3 people at most), although groups of only one person are allowed too. Is there anyway I can do that?

As I said, I'm new here, so if I'm missing any important information you need, just let me know and I'll send it asap!

I'll be waiting for your answers, that is one of the few issues that I have to set my site 'live'.

Thanks!

Hi,

I'm not exactly sure what you're wanting, however one way of sorting students into groups when they enrol on a course would be to assign group enrolment keys. You will need to start by enabling group mode in the course settings.

Hi.  This is not an automatic way of putting students in groups, but does allow students to choose their groups:

Set up a choice module where the choices are the group names or section numbers, meeting times, or whatever.  Set the limit on each choice, is appropriate.  Post something on the news forum asking students to select the group they prefer.  When a group hits the limit you've set, it will say "full" next to that choice and the radio button for the choice will be disabled.

The problem of course is that then you have to copy the students' choices and go to your groups administration page and set the groups up by hand.  I did this today with a class of 48 and 10 groups.  (The students had already made their choices)  It took me about 15 minutes to set up the groups.
