I use books with links to orphaned files to get around the scroll of death and endless clicking that are typical of courses/modules in HE (at least where I work in the UK). I'm also really keen on students being able to do low stakes (i.e. not for a grade) comment/discussions or complete self-test quizzes as they read or listen to content without having to click into another resource. At the moment, I do this by embedding texts, padlet discussions and quizzes made in xerte into the book. This isn't ideal and if anyone has a better solution, I would be enormously interested in hearing about it.

You might consider the Lesson activity for some of this, as it lets you create question pages among content pages. You'd probably still have to use the Padlet discussions though.
Re: Integrating activities
Hi Glenn, thanks very much for your kind advice. I've just had a quick go with Lesson. To cut down on extraneous cognitive load, I want horizontal navigation and to integrate quizzes and low stakes social interaction into content pages. From what I can see, this isn't possible in Lesson, or am I missing something?
Re: Integrating activities
That’s right, you can integrate really only what you can put in the content area of a question page.
