Option to auto-submit questionnaire responses on close

I posted this last year, but it looks like the discussion was locked because it's been a year.

We have some teachers who want to see the saved student responses to a questionnaire. When the questionnaire is closed, they can only see who haven't submitted their responses (along with the saved responses but not submitted). There is no way for the teachers to see the saved submissions and the students can't go back in and submit their saved responses after the questionnaire has been closed.

Is there a feature similar to quizzes where saved responses are automatically submitted when the activity is closed? Has anyone come across this issue? Is there a need from the community for this?

I could see benefit to seeing the "unsubmitted" saved responses, but auto-submitting seems like the wrong choice. There could be required answers, not answers. And, if there are answers that are not required, there would be no way to tell whether an unanswered one was not answered on purpose.

"There could be required answers, not answers" should have been, "[t]here could be required answers not answered".

Hi  Mike,

Thanks for replying to this thread!!

I can see you point where the answer the student selected might not be their final decision, but we've had complaints where the students would save their responses and come back thinking they could hit "submit" later on. When they missed the deadline, we'd have to reopen the questionnaire and wait for them to submit it (which runs the risk of other students accessing the questionnaire and submitting late). Then there is the waiting game, so if we open the questionnaire, there's no guarantee the student will come back and submit their saves responses.

The instructor also wants to see the what the saved responses are, but are unable to see them. But the instructor can see that the student started and saved his/her response.
