Unfortunately, and I genuinely hate to gripe, it falls into the "what were they thinking?" pile for me.
It provides a progress "thing", which I don't want, need or care about at the expense of users actually being able to find their courses. I assume the target user has 5 courses and lots of course completion stuff turned on.
I think we're going to end up writing our own course overview block. Not liking the stock one is not the complete reason (we want to add information pulled from sources outside of Moodle) but it's quite a significant one.
