Using the current group management system, I added the possibility to add people on globals groups : in fact related to the main course.
Can be useful when managing school years. Presented as a block, just copy the directory in blocks/ and copy block_year_groups_lang.php in lang/en after renaming it "block_year_groups.php".
For example, when choosing students to a course, It's possible to show only people from a global group (feature not in that patch, I'll send it if interessed).
In addition to that (I'll send the patch if someone is interested), I added the possibility to add someone in multiple groups (in the same course).

It will be a great feature. I had test part of the multiple groups in 1.6 beta and have not known what this will do to the group assignment/lessons ... and to the grades.

Does 'Global Gorups' allow enrolling students in a course based on their global grouping ? For example, can i create global gorups for each class, enrol students in them, and then just select that group for enrolment in the course ?

I am interested in seeing how your global group code works. Have you maintained/updated the code for 1.6? What I would like to do is allow teachers to add a global event on the calendar when they are giving a test or major assignment. Our school policy is that we have a calendar and teachers are supposed to sign up on the calendar and not schedule more than 3 tests for any given day. What I was planning of doing was manually going in and creating groups for course id=1 (the main course). That is to say, I would create one group for each class and enrol all the freshman in one group, the sophomores in another, juniors in another, and seniors in the fourth. I could add the teachers depending on what level of student they teach. Then a teacher would go and create a group event for freshman saying English 1 Test (Teacher's Name) and it would show up on the calendar and the other freshman teachers would see it. I am curious if this sounds feasible or if others have other ideas for how to accomplish this. I would greatly appreciate it if you send me your code for this block as it sounds like it would making setting up/administering this setup a little easier. I could then test it and/or merge it with 1.6. Peace.
