Allow suspended users to see their grades

Allow suspended users to see their grades

Hey everyone!

Sorry if this isn't where I'm supposed to post this, but I thought it didn't apply to the other forums.

My problem is that I need suspended users to be able to see the grades of the course. For example, Maria is enroled in course A, and her enrolperiod ends 01/01/2017. So now, (01/03/2017) she can't see her grades, even though they are there, because grades are part of the course administration. Is there a way to accomplish this? Am I making the wrong use of suspended users?

FYI : What we do is enrol a lot of people from different companies into Course A. People from Company A get their own group and so does people from Company B and C. Each group is enrolled with bulk upload and in it is included "enrolperiod1", wich makes Maria (from the example above) a suspended user once the time has passed.

Also, I'm in Moodle 2.8 and will be upgrading soon to Moodle 3.1

Thanks in advance!

A user with suspended enrollment in a course should still be able to see their grades for that course in their Dashboard > Grades. They just can't go into the course.

In 2.8 this would still be in the User profile in the Activity reports > Grades area. After your upgrade to 3.1, it will be accessible via the user pull down menu in the upper right (depending on theme of course).

Hi Randy!

Thanks for replying. Currently, I'm using the Zebra theme, and from what I gather the dashbaord is the "My Home" page, right?

In this page there are no grades showing, and even if I "customize this page" I can't seem to find a "grade" block or something similar. Could it be that a role is blocking the user from seeing this?

Thanks in advance!

Right, Dashboard is just the new name for what was called 'My home' all these years. It got revamped and renamed in 2.9.

I guess that the User menu Grades item was added to the user pull down menu in 2.9 too, it is not in 2.8. I thought it was. You'll find this in the Appearance > Theme > Theme settings > User menu items, area in 2.9 onwards. What themes do with the User menu is up to them, of course, but it is there by default in base themes in  2.9 on.

So, in 2.8 then, users should still be able to see all their grades - as long as they are stilled enrolled in any one course - in any course in the Grades > Overview report, as always.

Or you could take a look at the My grades block - https://moodle.org/plugins/block_my_grades. It was discontinued after 2.8. I can't vouch for it, having not used it, but look like there were some bugs with it in 2.8 with the new gradebook.

Thanks so much for your help Randy. I didn't manage to find the option, but we are upgrading to Moodle 3.0 next month so I'll take a look at te  Dashboard then.

Thanks again!

FYI: For anyone reading this that might run into the same trouble, I'm using Zebra, which apparently doesn't include the Grades in 'My Home'. Like Randy said, you will find this setting here:

Appearance > Theme > Theme settings > User menu items

I didn't find 'User menu items', but did find 'Custom menu items' which might be a possible solution for this.
