Difficulty with apache server for localhost setup

Difficulty with apache server for localhost setup

Hi,

As I don't know much about servers I opted to use the localhost install package for Mac OS.  All was going great until I clicked on the icon (elephant) to start the servers (apache and another). When I click start servers I get a message saying that the apache server can't be started and to check my settings but there doesn't appear to be a settings icon.

Any assistance will be gratefully received.

Gareth

It appears that you installed MAMP, right?

If so, on the MAMP dialog box you do have a "Preferences" icon.

I have had MAMP running for quite awhile, so I am a little vague about how I originally installed it and if I had any problems.  I don't recall the one that you mentioned.

Make sure that you have only one instance of any apache server running on your Mac.

If you want to just experiment with Moodle, use the free MoodleCloud service: https://moodlecloud.com/en/ -- no installation needed. The MAMP package that you used is fine for using for yourself but it is not recommended for production, that is using Moodle with other participants.
