Custom Menu - top-level links not working

Hi!

I have a problem with the Custom Menu - the top-level links (Title1, Title2 etc.) are just not functioning... Even though they appear as clickable links when hovered over. What could be the reason? (Moodle 2.9; Aardverk)

Please, help. Thanks!

Hi Arturs,

I cannot offer you help, only a few observations. MDL-46652 (fixed) and MDL-49655 (unresolved) seem to be related to your problem.

We use English at our site and have no need to use other languages in the custom menu. So I didn't observe your problem. But even without using different languages in Moodle 3.0.1, the top level links are only working when I right-click on them and select anything from the dropdown menu (e.g., Open link in new tab).

With kind regards,

Hartmut

Hi Hartmut,

I am not sure if these MDLs are related to my problem. The language ||en is used just to limit the user menu appearance to the English version, and that works fine.

My problem is the same as yours - I can open the top-level only with right-click. (Thank you for letting me know that it works this way!)
But that is super annoying and users wont get that.

I am surprised that I did not find this issue raised up in Moodle Tracker. I will then.

Best regards,

Arturs

OK. I created the issue https://tracker.moodle.org/browse/MDL-54747

I think that started in 2.8.  I was told it wasn't a bug but a feature.  My workaround is to make another link in with the siblings that goes to the top level.  I use 5-6 levels, so it ts a real pain. ..but it works.

Hi Melanie,

I am wondering - how does it serve as a feature?...
Thanks for the workaround! I think I will have to use it, too, although it is counter-intuitive. Especially, because the non-functioning top level links look like regular and clickable links...

Arturs

If I remember the discussion correctly Artur (and I may be wrong) it was about usage on mobile devices. If the top level of the menu is clickable as a link there is no way to expand the drop down as you can't hover on a tablet/phone

well, it really does make sense then. However, it would be great if the top level links do not look like clickable links (for PC users) then...
