you dont have to configure DNS for it, applying bindings will let you access website through IP and it has always worked, have you actually applied bindings to the site properly?
regarding setting up DNS, as name applies, it translates your domain name into IP, where you dont have any domain name, so setting up DNS wont work for you either.
