(Turnitin version 2016011105, on Moodle 2.9.3)

We used to have Turnitin automatically enabled on all assignment submissions, but since upgrading the plugin this no longer happens.
One of our tutors forgot to enable turnitin when creating an assignment, so after the students submitted, she turned Turnitin submission on. Now all the student submissions are marked as pending.
How do I force these files to be submitted to Turnitin?
How can I set future assignment submissions to go to Turnitin by default?
