I find the select missing words question confusing

I have been playing with this question type on and off for many years (possibly as many as 10). Today I was exploring an upgrade to Moodle 3.0 and was rather looking forward to using the new OU question types.

The thing that throws me every time is how do you tell the form what is the correct answer. I foolishly messed with the Group dropdowns which is irrelevant unless you are using groups. I think it would be clearer if the Group dropdowns were hidden by default and a bit of javascript made them visible on request. Also perhaps some text next to shuffle that indicated how an option would be set to be the correct option. I think the same is also true for the draggy droppy version as well.

Well Marcus, you know what they say in open source projects: patches welcome smile

Good that you are discussing what to do here first. I realise that not every question type can be as awesome as your gapfill type.

More seriously, I would like to hear what people who use this question type in their teaching have to say in answer to your questions.

Dang, I should have thought you might have suggested I provide some code smile. An additional help button might be a big help. I know there is one at the top of the screen but an additional one next to the section might be good. I have attached a screen shot of how it might look. I make no great claims for my wording.

... so if you have 1 2 3 in your question text, Choice 1,2, and 3

It might be that other people have found it easy to learn and my awkwardness with it is more to do with how infrequently I use the question type.
