If you mean IDE I like PHPStorm (not free/open-source although a free 1 year student licence is available), there are also many users that like open-source tools like NetBeans, Eclipse and Vim - we even have docs on these too!

I've switched to PhpStorm (I was using SublimeText) about a month ago and it's amazing.
If you have a .edu email account, you can request a license for free
