I didn't use this certain plugin, however, I find all plugin that I used easy to install.
if you encounter any problem ask in the plugin page, and usually developers will help alot.
it's good practice to set a testing environment for moodle, where you install any plugin or for any settings you want to change and once you are sure about it, you can applay it in "real" Moodle.

Although I have never used the Certificate plugin I have been reading about it these forums since it was first made available and it has a very good reputation and is one of the most popular plugins.

I use the Certificate plugin very frequently. It is easy to install and use. The main drawback is formatting options are limited. It is wonderful for simple certificates, but if you want a highly customized certificate, then I recommend getting someone to write code for a customized certificate.
You can create some customization by uploading your own background images.
