When teachers create new questions for quizzes, they are presented with the Question chooser which by default has the questions in alphabetical order. However, it's quite easy for the administrator to change the order of these question types from Site administration > Plugins >Question types > Manage question types, by moving selected question types up and down with the arrows:
When the teacher then goes to create a new question, they then see the most commonly used question types at the top of the list, so there is less scrolling down - especially if the site has many contributed question types as well as the standard ones:
I wonder how many administrators actually make use of this feature? It could be even more useful when Moodle 3.0 is released, because there will be four new question types available in the list. In fact, just to help administrators and teachers out, if you have a completely new installation of Moodle 3.0 then you will see the most commonly used question types at the top by default. A recent survey on favourite question types put Multiple choice questions right at the top as everyone's favourite with 75%, with True/False at 12%.
As an afterthought, it will be interesting to see if the list of favourites changes when Moodle 3.0 comes out and we get as standard Select missing words, Drag and drop into text, Drag and drop onto image, and Drag and drop markers
