Elegance strikes again

Elegance strikes again

Hello beloved theme community!  Long time no see!  Since June I've been quite busy, I've:

  • Moved from China to Arizona, to California, to Utah!
  • Done some freelance Moodle theme work
  • Started LMS MarketPlace: a place to purchase plugins and services from vendors
  • Rebuilt the engine on a 2008 KLR650
  • And most significantly I've begun employment at Instructure working with Canvas

You read that correctly.  That's two developers that either Elegance has forced into the arms of Instructure or Instructure has snatched away from the development of Elegance (depends on your perspective).  So what does that mean?

I will be ceasing development and support on Elegance- and most likely all my officially maintained Moodle plugins.

I'll still be operating my LMS MarketPlace so if you're a vendor, don't worry there.

I'll probably still play around with Moodle and release some stuff but much more unofficially.  I'd like to be clear that this isn't a requirement of the job, but more the reality of my availability of time-  I'll have time to play and that's about it.

In fact, here's an optimization of render_custom_menu() to add the 'my courses' menu item 大笑

When I get another minute I'll drop my code for CSS only background sliders on the login page (from Tympanus) - it works really well!

I wish nothing but the best for the Moodle community- and the theme developers especially, and want to thank all of you who have guided/taught/mentored/helped me as I developed my Moodle chops.

WOW! That's some move! Well done you.

I wish you all the best too...Danny, thank you for your help over the years...I learned a lot from you.

The course menu will be a useful patch, so thanks for that too!

Love and God bless in your new job.

Mary

Thanks for the kind words everybody!  Bas Brands has volunteered to take over Elegance and I have asked David to set him up as lead maintainer.  I'm sure he'll be by shortly to provide you with his preferred support method, email, and home phone number where he'll happily answer all requests about a 3.0 release 大笑

Seriously though, there couldn't be a better lead for Elegance, another win for the community!

Thanks for posting this Danny and thanks for that compliment!

Since this theme is a Bootstrap(3) child theme I am happy to adopt it and take care of it.

I guess I'll be create a new forum topic for support once everything is done with Git / the plugin database. My focus for this theme will be to make it fully 2.9 ready and keep a unique and customizable style / design. And who knows what the future will bring!

Good for you Danny, bad for us! but then this is the life.

Congrats on your new work, btw 4 moves within a year is really something I can't even think of doing. Good thing Bas took over the theme as I am still using it actively whilst only updating the fontawesome icon set to make it useable with new icons. Hope Bas will do to Elegance, what Gareth has done to Essential 眨眼

Wow. Big news.

1. I'm excited to have Danny joining the Canvas team. Awesome having more great ppl here

2. Im uber excited that Bas is taking over Elegance. The theme came into being when I was playing with Bas' original Bootstrap3 code. I could not picture the theme in better hands

3. Im ultra uber excited to see Elegance and Essential continue after my departure. This is why I love open source communities. Good ideas never die, they just change maintainers!

4. Keep a close eye on Gareth! I mean just in case this trend continues :P
