How to set up roles, and enroll students, in MoodleCloud

I just completed the Teaching with Moodle MOOC. I backed up my practice course and restored it to my MoodleCloud site, in my role as Admin.

What I would like to do next is have other people try the course out on MoodleCloud:

  • Where do I find out general information about the Admin role?
  • How do I set up people as Students? Can I set up a person as a Student for the entire site, or do I need to do this on a course-by-course basis?
  • For the course itself, are all enrolment statuses (manual, self, guest) available in MoodleCloud?

All help, including suggestions as to where to look in the documentation, is greatly appreciated!

Thanks - Ted

Ted,

Welcome to the Moodle Community!

Here is the page for new admins.  The adding users section is about half way down.  There are links to further info. There are several ways to do this. Let us know if you need more help.

Paula gave the perfect answer smile That page she referenced Guide for new administrators should be linked to from the example course that came with your Moodlecloud site. It's important to remember for future reference and to avoid confusion that enrolment in Moodle means putting students into courses and authentication means getting them onto the site in the first place. So when a student is in your course they must have been authenticated AND enrolled ;)

Thank you Mary and Paula - when I first set up my MoodleCloud site, my initial Moodle knowledge was so sparse that even reading the example course wass beyone me. Now that I finished the MOOC, I was able to find this guide and will definitely try to authenticate some people so that I can enroll them in my demo class.

I do have one big question. I have my own computer training and math tutoring business here in the US. Are there any restrictions on using MoodleCloud and BigBlueButton for commercial purposes, i.e., filthy lucre? Once I get up to speed, I would like to develop some training that I can do remotely and charge for my services (I've already had an out-of-client that I helped over the phone who paid me using PayPal). Please let me know.

Thanks again - Ted
