Recovering files as Moodle no longer works on server

Recovering files as Moodle no longer works on server

I have been running Moodle 2.3 on a server hosted by Fat Cow and the Moodle page no longer works. Far Cow say that they no longer support this version of Moodle ( can only support 1.9.10) - they are trying to blame me for it not working. As I can no longer open Moodle,  I need to try and get all the files I loaded into Moodle. Where are all the files stored within Moodle on the server ?

Thanks in advance Nic

In order to recover the site you need a complete dump of the database and you need a complete copy of the files pointed to by the line $CFG->dataroot in your Moodle's config.php file (and the subfolders of that directory too).

If you have that lot in your possession you are as safe as you are going to get.

They must be running some ancient versions of server software if 1.9.10 is their limit.

Thanks for your help, I do they think they have a responsibility to restore my moodle site to what it was like before they said they decided they couldn't support it. I have found my config.php file, I can access all my files on the server. I will look in to how I might do the dump of the database. Will I be able to locate all my files I have added to Moodle - will they be in a specific folder ?

If you upgraded to 2.3 then you won't be able to find the files in on the disk although they are there. The best thing is to restore the site somewhere else.

Moodle 2.x changes all the filenames and sticks them in a complicated folder structure. They'll be tricky to track down (to say the least).

Ok, thanks. I will have a look at  another hosting company that is more supportive and see if they can transfer and so restore my Moodle site. Thanks for your help !
