Tablet Classroom Management MDM

Tablet Classroom Management MDM

Hi there,

i would like to manage my students mobile devices (Tablets, phones ...) in the classroom (real classroom, not moodle course).

There are some tools like radix, tabpilot who are probably able to do the management of any mobile device. I never tried them, but i guess this tools are some kind of webbased program.

is there a way to manage mobile devices with moodle, or are there any plans to implement such a function?

Thanks!

Harald

Morning Harald,

Thanks for your post.

Re:  http://www.radix-int.com/Classroom-Management/Tablet-Classroom-Management-Software.html

I think Miss Murphy is a very lucky girl!  This kit is nice-it has to be said, really good ideas for all stakeholders to support L&T-whatever the age-range I would say.

 When you say:

i would like to manage my students mobile devices (Tablets, phones ...) in the classroom (real classroom, not moodle course).  I would be very concerned if you wanted to manage students BYOD? I am not sure this is the point...it seems to me that the hardware needs to be supplied to the group with the software on it and the class teacher is ready to rock and roll smile

When you say there are some tools like radix, tabpilot who are probably able to do the management of any mobile device. Maybe I am not as aware as I ought to be-and I have got the wrong end of the stick in the last para, but I would need to see evidence for that.

is there a way to manage mobile devices with moodle, or are there any plans to implement such a function? Currently-not that I am aware...but it may be I have missed something. Future-wise....mmmmm

It possibly comes down to what you mean (or think you mean) by the term "manage". What problem are you trying to solve?

hi dawn & howard,

yes your right, i will test radix and tabpilot ect.

What i mean by the term "manage",

My will students bring their own device, in the classroom there is a wlan,

the most important function, i would like to control the students internet access.

As a example the stundents can only reach my moodlesite (i'm pretty sure i can do this by configuring the wlan router so they only can access a single ip address).

Now i would like to use Moodle some kind of "gateway", so the students are able to access special urls but only by using this "moodlegateway".

So i can control wich urls can be loaded or not.

Second function: Push content to students device. Maybe there is a way to push that content to on my moodlesite and course logged in users.

Third function: Somekind of live Whiteboard. I know (some years ago) there was a way to implement a big blue button server. But maybe there is a way with moodle "on board" functions...

That are just some ideals, would be nice to have, i'm not sure if something like this is possible with just a "webapplication".

Thanks again!

Harald

Hi,

Re: My will students bring their own device, in the classroom there is a wlan, So, you will aim to support the use of ipads, laptops, and mobile phones etc...?

the most important function, i would like to control the students internet access. But, they will still be able to open other web pages with their BYOD?

As a example the stundents can only reach my moodlesite (i'm pretty sure i can do this by configuring the wlan router so they only can access a single ip address).....mmmmm....won't other networks still be available....3G anywhere?? And so on....I am fuzzled by the wlan bit....how do you shut down other stuff on a mobile/laptop etc for 60 students....it is the constraint-I am not getting.

Now i would like to use Moodle some kind of "gateway", so the students are able to access special urls but only by using this "moodlegateway". An app-sounds like a good idea to me at this point.

Second function: Push content to students device. Maybe there is a way to push that content to on my moodlesite and course logged in users. Ditto

Third function: Somekind of live Whiteboard. I know (some years ago) there was a way to implement a big blue buttonserver. But maybe there is a way with moodle "on board" functions...I would like to learn more about this...couldn't the whiteboard feature-on board-be within the moodle gateway app?

Yes, right.

Good point, i just forget that smile

mmmmm....won't other networks still be available....3G anywhere??

You're right, i'm just able to control the wlan but not 3g, this will not be possible with boyd

The Moodle App would be a nice thing, but it should be running on ios, andoid, win... so i thought a web app would be the easiest way.

same for the push and whiteboard feature,

Right now i got the test account for tabpilot (this is a webapp), i will check this out, maybe something similar is possible to implement in moodle in future.

thx

There are a number of different companies that supply software that lets you do everything you mention for regular desktop and laptop computers. The only one I know of offhand that is trying to implement support for all the newer portable devices is Netop Vision. Here at my school we use two older versions (6.5 and 7.2) which do not have support for the new stuff, but their version 8 does. You might want to look at their technical specs. Last time I checked, they had a 30 day free trial period.
