Hello anyone, if anyone can help with this. We launch our school in July 2005. Since then, we had over 300 people who registered and signed up for classes. But, a lot of then were erased because of the 30 days setting of inactivity. So right now, we have over 250 students in our school now.
We have a dedicated server on http://www.ymp.net/, in fact, the name of the nameserver is NS1.YMP.NET. Most of the sites are using either Mambo, XOOPS, or OSCommerce, then some of them are simply plain HTML. I need someones help with Moodle. All of the sites that uses HTML, NO PROBLEMS what so ever. All sites not running Moodle, using MySQL and PHP, running a little slow, but tolerable.
Two sites on the server, http://www.wise-path.org/ (XOOPS) and http://www.dragonsdvd.com/ (Mambo) are the heaviest loads on the server with over 1GB transfers per month. http://www.wise-learning.org/ is theeeee heaviest load on the server at 1.5GB per month. For some reason, wise-learning.org is running very slow.
Our server stats:
CPU | GenuineIntel, Intel(R) Celeron(TM) CPU 1400MHz |
Version | psa v7.5.4_build75050824.12 os_FedoraCore 2 |
OS | Linux 2.6.10-1.771_FC2 |
Key number | PLSK.********.**** |

Since our site is running so slowing, we have tried everything from increasing the RAM from 512MB to 1GB, we tried selecting the amount of session login time to 30 minutes, and 30 days for inactivity. Still the site is running slower. Our server host says that there is a lot of non-activity requests to our MySQL server on the site, specifically to this site. Can someone who is server knowlegdable can help me with this issue?
Here is one thing though. Since we switch the dbsession (where instead of using flatfiles to store sessions, it uses the database), our site has been going a lot faster. But we just tried it tonight. We are going to try this setting for a few days to see how it performs. But, if someone can tell us who is experienced if this was the problem and that using the dbsessions=enable is the best way, then we will keep it.
We are considering upgrading our server from 1.4GB Celeron to 2.4GB Pentium 4 with 120GB of hard disk. Our host is asking us to do this and I am seriously considering it. Do you guys think it is the server that is being overloaded (keeping in mind that the other HTML, PHP/MySQL and PHP only sites has no problems with so ever) or do you think it is something else.
We do think though that maybe there is a setting in the school somewhere, like a purge old data function that can clean the database of old files after "say" three months or so. Please any advice will be appreciated.
