System.

Windows 2000 Professional - SP3 | MYSQL Max 4.0.4 | PHP 4.2.3 | Apache 2

Problem

During the website setup, I encounter problems after setting up the database. When I reached at web form for entering the website name, smtp, e.t.c; after I click the Submit button the setup goes to login page instead of Admin setup page as described on the installation documentation.

If the problem is unknown, could you please let me know the stable windows environment you tested moodle i.e what version of Apache, MySQL, PHP.

Thanks.

Yes, that's a new one. Were you upgrading or installing new?

Personally I use XP SP1 for my own tests, with Apache 1.3.23, MySQL 3.23.48 and PHP 4.1.1. But I know there are many other users using more recent versions.

If you have any more clues, please post them.

I installed Apache 1.3.27 amd PHP 4.1.2 and tested moodle and had that same problem as above (During setup Admin page doesn't show and goes straight to Login page.). I wondering if anybody had success in installing and running Moodle on Windows 2000 Pro SP3, please let me know any php.ini or httpd.conf settings required.

The following error message shows up.

ERROR: Could not instantiate mail() ' + inobj[objprop] + '\n'); } op.document.close(); } function fillmessagebox(text) { document.form.message.value = text; } function openpopup(url,name,height,width) { fullurl = "http://www.dabir.com" + url; options = "menubar=0,location=0,scrollbars,resizable,width="+width+",height="+height; windowobj = window.open(fullurl,name, options); windowobj.focus(); } function copyrichtext(textname) { textname.value = document.richedit.docHtml; return true; } // done hiding -->

When I login as admin with admin as password I see

Is it possible to re-engineer the code and instead of using cookies customize to use global variables for session trackings.

There are lots of problems with cookies. IE6 doesn't support cookies by default and we can't get users to enable cookies, also users sometimes are restricted to change settings in academic environment.

Thanks for the time and help.

I find that surprising ... nearly every site on the Internet uses cookies.

Are you saying that this is the cause of the above problems?

Windows 2000 Pro SP3

EasyPHP 1.6
   apache 1.3.24
   php 4.2.0
   mysql 3.23.49
   phpmyadmin 2.2.6

Some of the problems get resolved by installing EasyPHP and I was able to access Admin setup page during installation. The problem was due to wrong Apache or PHP settings. I am using the default settings of EasyPHP.

Still having a few minor problems.

1. The SMTP didn't work but the PHP mail() function is working. The SMTP settings are working in Microsoft Outlook Express.

2. Sometimes after logging as admin, I return to the homepage instead of Admin console page but when I click on any course, I get logged in as Admin. (This could be due to Browser caching). I tested it with both IE 6 and Netscape 7 with same results.

3. I created the course and logged in as Admin. In the "Files..." section, I was only able to see "Make a Folder" and "Upload a Files" button. I clicked on "Make a Folder" button and it returned to same page with no change. When a looked at data folder, there was a new folder "3", I manually created a test.txt file in that folder. When I went back to same page, it showed me the following page but none of the functionality is working and any user event returns to the same page without displaying any error. Could it be due to PHP and Apache "HTTP" variable settings.
