Get yourself and 'Elastic cache' instance and configure the sessions to point to that. We use Amazon with glusterFS and haven't had any problems at all with sessions - it appears to be fast enough - so I'm surprised by your experience.
I also encountered the same error when I attempted to grade an assignment. After I click the grading button in Assignment submission page, the webpage kept loading until timeout.
In the web server error log, I found the following error messages:
1. Cannot obtain session lock for sid
2. Unknown exception when writing database session data
Any idea of these errors and how to solve this problem?
