Hi,
When I create an event in the Moodle calendar I can pick among different event types (Course, User, Group, Site). Is there no way to change/edit this once the event has been created?!
(Moodle 2.7 here)

Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but you can start with this Moodle Doc on Calendar Types. Once you looked at that, you might want to go on to this doc about the Calendar API. Might help.
