Help needed setting up courses

Thanks Mary, that's exactly what I will do as I'm getting obsessed with the wrong thing.

If I can ask a structure Q here please, it will help speed things up (please move to appropriate forum if its not for here).

Scenario: The music school will be a mix of group tuition, 1-1 tuition and online courses (so some pupils will be attending physically with a specific teacher, some externally enrolled onto a set course and assigned a teacher to mark/offer feedback.

1-1 tuition

Q - I would like each pupil to have their own area with ongoing uploaded resources to support their individual lessons, maybe in a 'book' to avoid scroll of death getting out of hand? None of the pupils should be able to see each other and their resources are individual to them. Q. Is the best way to manually create a course in a sub-category in the pupils name eg 1-1 Lessons/Guitar/Pupils name?

Online Courses

Ideally I would like to have a set of courses available for enrolment, but again I want the user experience to be individual/separate and as different teachers are to be assigned as mentors I'm not sure how to approach this without manually creating a course everytime someone enroles.

Any help on these would be much appreciated

Hi Ben,

As you will see I have split this from the Themes Forum discussion, where you originally posted it. I have also changed the subject title to reflect your cry for help, and moved this to the 'Teaching with Moodle' forum where Mary Cooch is Forum Moderator and one of the best people to answer your questions.

Cheers

Mary

Thanks for your help & hopefully someone in here can assist.

You can try the Dataform module for tracking 1-1 tuition and for individualized activities in general. The concept is similar to the core Database module but far richer. You can populate Dataform content to any course page via blocks, so if your instruction is not course oriented but rather activity oriented, you can use the My Moodle page for an ultimate personalized experience of your students and as their entry point to activities. hth smile

Hi Itamar, thanks for the reply, much appreciated.

I installed the Dataform module without issue (i think). I'm still getting to grips with Moodle so forgive me if I'm asking basic Q's, but from what I understand you have said that for 1-1 tuition I can use Dataform on the 'My Home' as a post-log in landing page, is that correct?

I cant seem to add an activity straight to that page, so could you give me a brief walkthrough of how you would set up/use a Dataform example please. I cant see any walkthrough docs or video tutorials anywhere so any help appreciated.

Thanks, Ben

Ben, can you restart this discussion in the Dataform forum (https://moodle.org/mod/forum/view.php?id=8192)?

Alternately, Mary, if you get this message before Ben, can you split and move to the Dataform forum? Dataform based solutions may probably be of interest here too, but details should better be discussed in the Dataform forum.
