After updating to 2.8.1 Course groups not working in common module settings its not showing that option to put a file only for a group.
Also I saw that in Site Administration > Development > Experimental > Enable group members only need to be checked. (its not existing anymore )
Any idea what changed or what I should do ?
Enable group members only does not exist in Moodle 2.8; you are right; however, the improved Conditional activities feature allows you to set a file for just one group. You might also like to read Conditional activities settings (If you could please tell me where in the 2.8 documentation you saw the note about enable group members only needing to be checked, then I can update it, thanks.)
Thank you very much Mary...the new feature is better than the old way of restricting access only by grouping so this new feature is more useful.
We just recently upgraded from Moodle 2.6.x to 2.8.5 and noticed that this change adversely affects certain configurations.
For example, one course had a forum set up with separate groups composed of 1 person per group (so as to use the forum as an internal 1 on 1 support system, similar to email), and individuals from other groups were now able to see messages in others' forums. We noticed that when a grouping was selected previously with the option to limit access to that grouping only, replacing this option with the new conditional setting when upgrading to version 2.8.5 seemed to have broken the forum's initial setup.
I now have the teacher going through each forum to delete the conditional option and simply use separate groups with a grouping, which works fine for her needs.
