Timestamp (v2.5)

Timestamp (v2.5)

I hope this is a good place to post this question, no other forum seemed appropriate. If there is a better forum to post this odd question in, please let me know and I will do so.

I'm the moodle admin for our school district. Moodle administration seems to have endless learning opportunities!

I just noticed today when I was looking at logs that the timestamp is off by exactly one hour (the timestamp is one hour earlier than the actual time). I guess I could just wait for daylight savings time to come around and it would be correct! But then I bet the problem would re-appear in spring. 8-(

I looked in the moodle docs and found:  https://docs.moodle.org/dev/Time_API#Overview but these docs do not explain how to fix the problem. I also looked through the moodle admin menu but could not find an option for adjusting time for DST (if indeed that is the problem).

Can someone please point me in the direction of some intructions on how to solve this problem?

Thanks very much!

Here you go.

https://docs.moodle.org/23/en/Location

Be sure to use the version that matches your version, but I'm pretty sure there is no change in 2+ versions.

We are using the Face-to-Face plugin.

Do you know if such plugins update their times after using the update timezone link?

That is if the "desired" starting time for a session was 1pm would it stay 1pm or would it change?

Mark,

Sorry to say I do not know that plugin. Sorrier to say that I do not know the answer to your question.

I would try it on a localhost version, but I'm betting you will need to reset the time to 1 pm once your timezone is updated.

Thanks Ben,

Yes ... I think you are right.

I just tried a few settings.

  • Forcing the time to UTF +9.5 = 1pm in plugin Face-to-Face
  • Not forcing the time ... using server time went to 2pm in plugin Face-to-Face
  • Using "Australia-Adelaide" ... went to 2pm in plugin Face-to-Face

I believe the last setting will in the long-term be better, but for now will leave at force UTF +9.5 will ensure that the Face-to-Face times are accurate... we don't want staff rolling up an hour early or late!

Thanks for your input.
