Trying to set up a tutoring service!

Trying to set up a tutoring service!

I am currently trying to set up an online tutoring website for the exchange students at Washington and Jefferson College. Does anyone have any suggestions for what format to use? Or any recommendations on how to set up the program? I am looking for a format that can allow me to have a constantly updated tutoring schedule, calendar, and various links for students to click on for additional practice outside tutoring hours.

I am new to Moodle and have little idea how to set up a website like this! Any suggestions are welcome

Hi Dana,

Sounds like a good idea. I have thought of this as well. Digital Teacher is my website that i use for my students but other individuals can have their own space within the Moodle. Drop me a  line if you are interested.

cheers

Thanks for the link. But could you please explain to me why I should be told that I am blacklisted on viewing your link???? Is it me? Or is is it because I am residing in Russia. What other countries are blacklisted for an international moodle?

Do you normally deliver your full content in HTML h3 headers?

What was that, Visvanath? I couldn't quite hear it. Would you possibly be so kind as to speak up just a tad if that isn't too much trouble. Awfully grateful.

I would still like to know why this website selects individuals on their ip address. It seems a bit suspicious to me. This is what I see when I click the link.

Your country (RU) has been blacklisted.

Hi John,

Well I have had a read of this error on Google and it seems that it is at my end, with my service provider. I will look into to it. Is there anything i can help you with? There would be a Moodle test site here for you to get to know moodle better.

Hi Dana,

I think you might get a more "concrete" idea of how to do this by looking at what others have done and documented, i.e. research. The most widely cited model for collaborative online learning is the Community of Inquiry: https://coi.athabascau.ca/coi-model/

There are 3 Open Access research databases for online collaborative learning and teaching projects that I know of (there may be more):

Moodle's own: http://research.moodle.net/mod/data/view.php?id=1

Athabasca University: http://www.irrodl.org/index.php/irrodl/index (I'm a grad student there)

The European Union: http://www.eurodl.org/

A broader search of the web (add filetype:pdf to search queries to get more results as research papers) can return some interesting results too.

On using Moodle per se, there are some great "How to" style books available to get you started. Check with your favourite book vendors. That's about as good advice as I can give with the information you've given.

I hope it helps! 微笑
