Designing the Ideal Moodle

Designing the Ideal Moodle

This is a request for some comments and feedback on your wish list for your version of the ideal Moodle.  A little bit of research if you like.

I've had my say recently in a number of places.  Trying to find a bit of clarity about things like video hard coding, Book CSS printing, reports on sizes of courses, forums (etc)

I've even asked for a bit more clarity on the roadmap.

If you were looking for ideals to improve your working style, your life in Moodle as a designer, manager, tutor, administrator . .  what would they be?

Links to blog posts, other forum posts, existing expressions of desire are OK.

Ideally I'd be able to pick up a few of these thought in the morning, my time.

I think in terms of tasks that need doing, workflow.  But anything is of interest.

Cheers,

Oh dear... automatically created course repositories, then dnd on all editing screens that access course repository would be first....

a better wiki...

simpler quiz creation - more intuitive - and category connected, perhaps.

what would be better is that a database of questions can be externally generated by the Teachers, Admins Managers, anyone with editing rights, and can be uploaded to Moodle then accessed by any editor. These quiz generators can be subject based, category based, course based, whatever the user decides.  but dream on McDuff...

a fully integrated maths/sciences tex filter that produces quality images has always been an unrealised ideal

and now... how about an eportfolio tool automatically created when a new user is entered to the Moodle and is only accessible by that person, (and admins,) but allows the user to grant access to anyone who needs access.

Good luck Derek...

Sounds like Mahara, with MNet-based SSO and automatic account creation from Moodle. So-called Mahoodle.

Not quite an out-of-the-box solution. But not too tricky to set up (well documented!).

The others on your shopping list may be more difficult, but none appear impossible. Some have been within 'touching distance' for years

The Mahoodle was exactly what I was thinking of, but no-one has dared to say that here... and it is more likely that a failure of imagination amongst the ICT people who oversee the Moodles for schools here will mean it is not going to happen anytime soon. However, if it is part of Moodle, it can be activated.

The other thing I was thinking Derek, how about a minimalist core Moodle and a cultivation of lots and lots of plugins - like App Stores. You want it, plug it in, or make it for yourself, or the community. What would constitute a viable minimalist core though..mmmm no idea.
