The admin menu that used to be on the left side edge of the screen suddenly disappeared only for my account (other admins were not affected) and those missing menus seem to have been squeezed in the location I point out below. I cannot do any admin work because I cannot reach the menu. Could you help in restoring the menus?

Have you tried another browser or your MyHome page? If this still happens in another browser and the MyHome page, have you tried changing the theme to see if this is an issue with your specific theme?
If you don't want to change the theme for the entire site you could try changing your theme settings to allow theme changes in the URL. If you find this doesn't happen in another theme you could try asking this question in the Theme forum.
If you get super stick (because you don't have your Admin menu!) you could navigate to the following (or another query other than 'theme' to find another admin function until you find a fix: http:yoursite.com/admin/search.php?query=theme
eg. "..../search.php?query=user" or "..../search.php?query=course"
