Just Learning about Moodle

Just Learning about Moodle

I am an adjunct at a local community college.  The college tech trainer referred me to Moodle because adjuncts get last dibs on Web CTtraining space.  I will be running only one course per semester and will have only 25 students at most per class.

I have access to web space through a few providers.  Is Moodle something that I can upload to my own web space and have my students access through that venue?

If so how?

HI Tamara,

You can upload Moodle to your own web server if it can support:

PHP
and you have a
MySQL database account

PostgreSQL can also work.

There are many providers that have these features as default. Some even have Moodle on a Fantastico setup that is quite seamless to set up.

However, if you are going to have heavy usage of your site (mulitmedia presentations, heavy chat, graphics, etc.), you might experience problems as some providers limit the amount of usage you can use. At that point, you might look at other dedicated installation options.

You can follow the instructions to install Moodle here:

http://moodle.org/doc/?frame=install.html

or you can ask away on the Forums here. It would be helpful to let us know about hardware and server programs your provider uses.
