A smart "spreadsheet"

I want to include in my Moodle a spreadsheet list of books for my students, which also has columns for category, difficulty level, etc. I also want ability to allow students to sort this or filter this list based on certain criteria for each column. I want this to act a bit like excel.

What would you guys recommend?

Thank you

Hello,

This is beyond Moodle. You should set a web page with the interactive table and then provide a link from Moodle (e.g. a block, the menu bar, front page) to it.

As answered in your original post:

you could try and use Moodle's own resources:

If it helps, Visual BASIC can be used in Excel to do the sorting using a text box if you want to them to enter subject matter, pull down menus for fixed selection and buttons to activate Excel sorting.  How Excel might work with Moodle is another question.   Another approach is to use a database such as Access.  A lock can be placed on Excel to prevent user editing of the data.

These suggestions not only take a bit of time to develop but they are powerful and versatile.  However, I really hope that someone replies with a simpler method. (-:

While it would be nice to have a tool in Moodle that did what you described *exactly*, unfortunately, it does not.  However, database tool was mentioned (probably comes closest).  OR might I suggest looking into one of the *FREE* online Office Suites (Google Docs/Apps/Drive - Sheets).

Google Docs have other uses in Moodle ...  collaborative documents (multi-author), etc..

Am not speaking of the Google repository tool in Moodlel, but a simple URL to the shared Google docs file.
