Assignments due date question

Assignments due date question

Hi there,

I was wondering how the "due date" of assignments are handled.  Ideally, I'd like Moodle to:

(a) Submit assignment early... i.e. I have a place for the final research paper being due the last week of the course--which is the week where it should be placed--but I want Moodle to let students (a) turn in the assignment early, even a week or two and (b) still let them turn in the assignment late (I just take off some points for the late submission).

From tinkering around it looks like Moodle will let students submit late work, but I just wanted to make sure that was the case.  But it did seem like Moodle was only letting folks submit material starting on the week the assignment is posted in--which isn't ideal.

Sure, late work is fine. The time is just coloured red in the teacher view so you know it's late (and how late).

Students can submit any time at all until you assess them.

Martin you mention the moment "until you assess them" - Using a different teaching pedagodgy, that is a Competency based assessment ,  my preference would be to still give a numerical grade as well as the feedback being Competent or Not yet Competent.  Those whose work is Not yet Competent can continue to resubmit until deemed Competent.  At the moment those getting Not Yet Competent cannot resubmit.

Any suggestions for a workaround ?  Is it a feature that may be considered (for implementing in moodle) considering the prevalence of Competency based courses nowadays ?

Students luv moodling!!

Hi, Alan.

Yes, I saw your other post on this and I like the way competency-based assessment works as you described it. It should definitely be an option.

If the students could re-upload after grading, could you get by with the existing numerical grade and typing competent/notcompetent manually in the feedback box?

Logo?  wideeyes.gif  Cool!

I've checked in changes to allow resubmission after grading (it's a new option).  It's in CVS and latest nightly if you want to check it out.

If your students are keen, perhaps they can think about a slick new layout of the assignment view page, which is getting pretty ugly.  I'm all designed-out today.  eg:

&nbsp

gfgfgfg

Due date: Thursday, 14 November 2002, 10:53 AM (1 day )
Maximum grade: 50

Your assignment, should you choose to accept it, it to upload a file.

This page will self-destruct in 10 seconds ...  9.. 8.. 7.. 6.. 5.. 4...
