We uploaded some biggish zip files to Moodle data folder and unzipped them via Moodle for convenience. Most file permissions got set to 777 but some remained as "-rw-r-----". The owner is "nobody" a.k.a the web server, so it's not a problem while using Moodle. But it is a problem when backing up everything: ftp and rsync can't read the files, and I can't change the permissions as I don't have the permissions to do so.
Apart from manually copying these files via web browser and Moodle, is there an easier way to either get all of these files or to set the properties right? Do I need super user permissions for this? (I can't create a gz file, for example, as I can't read the files other than with the web browser)...
