Hello I have editing turned on, logged in as Administrator but I am not able to edit the course. Under edit, there are no icons. How can I get them back?
Please see my thread at https://moodle.org/mod/forum/discuss.php?d=244857#p1062076 .
Hello Brian
Thank you for the reply. I am not using windows 8 or internet explorer, and the edit button in question is not for text editing, but for editing the course settings.
The first image in the post above shows that I have no edit (or assign, or delete, or hide etc) buttons. I get there by going Course->Add/Edit Courses->Miscellaneous (course category)
The image attached shows what I would expect to see there, this is from a different install on a different system.
Any other ideas?
Regards
Anyone have any ideas?
Can you get to edit it by typing in the URL directly? Say if your course ID number is 37 then try typing into the browser http://www.YOURMOODLE/course/edit.php?id=37
If you are not able to edit it then, might it be that you have been given a student role in there by mistake? Is there another admin who can check what role you have in there?
Hello Mary
When I do that, I get "Sorry, but you do not currently have permissions to do that (Update course settings)". I am admin, and have almost everything checked, which specific permission am I missing?! I have all allowed under the "course" section
Regards
Do you have permissions (role) to edit that course?
If you go into the course can you "turn editing on"?
Have you tested it using the standard theme for that version of Moodle?
Hello Jez
I have all of the "course" permissions allowed, what specific permission am I looking for?
I can toggle editing on/off in the course selection screen
I have not tried changing the theme, it is the original theme.
Regards
Is there another admin who can check you have not been given a different role in the course? Can you make a new Site admin , log in with that account and access the course?
Hello Mary
I get the same results. I do not have the option to edit the individual course. If i try the edit.php url I first get a question asking me to enrol in this course, if I click yes then it proceeds to "Sorry, but you do not currently have permissions to do that (Update course settings)"
I'm beginning to think you have a corrupted course here - assuming you made a new site admin and they couldn't edit it either. Try to move it to a different category and see if that makes a difference (Just a thought) It looks from your screenshots you are using 1.9?
Hello Mary
Thanks to much for your help. I have upgraded a 1.9 to 1.19.9. I was hoping that the upgrade would allow me to change the settings. Would moving to a different category affect my many many users in any way? I am unsure when I have all permissions except edit, with a specific message telling me that I do not have permission to do this.
It won't affect your users if you change the course to a different category to see what happens. And you c an always change it back!
I have changed the category, still unable to edit the course. Any idea what specific permission come in to play while editing a course? I would love to be able to change it in the database if that was an option.
Ok, if you click to go into the course itself can you access it?
If so can you "Turn Editing On" in the course and access edit icons / activity chooser within the course page itself?
If so then you know you have access to that course, in which case you should be able to see the icons in the category page too.
Anyone know which specific setting affects you ability to edit a course?
Its not a setting but your role within the system or specific course.
For example if you are set up as a "site administrator" you should be able to go anywhere and do anything to any course, that role is set globally.
The Teacher role is normally set locally, on the course in which case you would need to be assigned the role of a teacher on the course in order to edit it.
You can also assign roles on categories (not advisable if you can avoid it) and all courses within them.
If you are site administrator you should not ever have a problem accessing.
